Ripon Invite

Saturday
on the road again...

Pool D
D1 - Washington
D2 - California
D3 - California-San Diego
D4 - North Carolina-Wilmington

Washington (Loss 13-8): finished 4th
I had no expectations here.  They seemed like a fine team but we just didn't wake up in the morning.  It's typical of me not to play well until the second or third game of the day.  Anyone
have any ideas on how to fix that?
Players of note: Shannon of course +1.  Her and a girl I don't know have REALLY accurate deep throws.
Turnovers [mine/team's] - 2/16
Drops [mine/team's] - 0/2
D's  [mine/team's] - 1/8
First possession scores - 4
Assists - 1
Scores - 0
Fantasy Player of the game: Ferris at +4

Cal (Loss 13-8): finished 6th
Beatable dangit.  We were up by a few points with a short rotation but instead of opening up the rotation at the end of the game, it was opened up in the middle.  Once we were tied or down by one the rotation was tightened again but we didn't have momentum and couldn't finish.
Players of note: Cree (made the worlds team congratulations!), Dara (superfast but could use
that to their advantage much more if she wanted to), Busty (awesome throws, great bids, love playing with that girl.  Thanks for that Shy...NNNIIICCCEEE)
Turnovers [mine/team's] - 7/21 HAHAHA I suck.  I'm hoping some of these hit people in the
 hands.
Drops [mine/team's] - 0/4
D's  [mine/team's] - 1/7
First possession scores - 3
Assists - 2
Scores - 0
Fantasy Player of the game: Sir Robin and Bonds tie at +3

UNCW (Win 13-8): finished 11th
The whole team played really well.  This was the game where I finally played to my potential.
Stats only complete up to point 14:
Turnovers [mine/team's] - 2/15
Drops [mine/team's] - 0/6
D's  [mine/team's] - 4/16
First possession scores - 5
Assists - 2
Scores - 1
Fantasy Player of the game: Meeko and Austen tie at +5

Western Washington (Loss 13-6): finished 7th
We lost by a TON.  They have a deep game that no amount of straight up and "stand behind your girl" could stop.
Turnovers [mine/team's] - 5/20
Drops [mine/team's] - 0/6
D's  [mine/team's] - 2/10
First possession scores - 2
Assists - 1
Scores - 0
Fantasy Player of the game: Ferris at +3

This is how psychos bond...
Meeko: "big spoon or little spoon?"
Joule: "middle spoon of course"

Sunday

Our coaches know how to pump up this team.  The method goes as follows:

Step 1 - Buy big yellow underwear with rainbows
on them.  Proceed to "encourage" Captain Sir Robin ('captain' and 'sir' may seem like overkill but trust me, it isn't).  No Jen, you can't wear your ultimate shorts under them...
Step 2 - Pass out sunglasses that fit absolutely no one but make absolutely everyone look good.
Step 3 - Fill a Finding Nemo pinata with chocolate candies.  Look around and inquisitively until someone suggests a GENIUS way to crack that puppy open.  Hit it with frisbees? no. Punch it? no.  OOOOOhhhhh I know, have Tidal mid air flying Bruce Lee jump kick it.  Did anyone else find it shocking that little Tidal has been in 10+ fights and was suspended from school multiple times?
Step 4 - Find other uses for Nemo...

Round 1 - Texas
Round 2 - UNC
Ninals - USC

Texas (Win 13-3): finished 13th
I remember Texas being the fast team but now I don't recognize anyone :-(.  Miss you Michelle! I'll being seeing YOU in Austin tomorrow.
Turnovers [mine/team's] - 2/13
Drops [mine/team's] - 0/2 Hooray!!!!!
D's  [mine/team's] - 1/8
First possession scores - 7
Assists - 4
Scores - 0
Fantasy Player of the game: Sir Robin at +4

UNC (Win 13-10): finished 12th
THE GRUDGE MATCH
Score reporter says the final score was 11-10 but the real story is even more exciting than that. Last year at the Stanford Invite, we were down 9-10 and were already on the line which means that when the cap went on the next point had technically already began. The UNC coach declared that they were the clear winner at 10-9 them, but Tambler and every single core member on our team argued with good reason.  What happened next you ask?  Well a first posession score of course.  And the next time, you inquire?  A legitimate D and a very calm 10000000 score for the win. 11-10 Psychos.  Suck it UNC hehe.
Turnovers [mine/team's] - 2/10
Drops [mine/team's] - 0/0 OMG
D's  [mine/team's] - 1/3
First possession scores - 8.  That's what I like to see (says the person who turns it over the most)
Assists - 1
Scores - 1
Fantasy Player of the game: Ferris and Bonds tie at +5

USC (Loss 13-9):
My only comment is... that should only work the once.
Turnovers [mine/team's] - 2/16
Drops [mine/team's] - 1/5. Ugh
D's - 2/8. I think I had a few more this game.
First possession scores - 4
Assists - 1
Scores - 0
Fantasy Player of the game: Sir Robin at +3

Over all I only came out net negative in the Western Washington and Cal games.  Also, I ended up getting the D award for our team for the tournament.  We give out awards every tourney for offense (Austen aka Jane "lay out machine" Griffin), defense, and spirit (Ziggy.  Poor Zigs got hurt in the UNCW game and was such a trooper.  Can't wait to have that girl back on the field). Anyone who knows me is probably also stunned.  D isn't exactly my strength... HAHA but I guess O isn't either :-)
